Last week VRFocus reported that Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) Head of Worldwide Studios, Shuhei Yoshida, had received his own unit of the Oculus Rift virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD). The PlayStation figurehead has had a week to play with the device now, but has already got his hands on some new kit. This morning, Yoshida confirmed that he now also has his own unit for HTC and Valve’s HTC Vive, which made its official launch last week, albeit with some issues with shipping.

Yoshida posted the above picture of him and the box for his unit on Twitter today. Last week the exec had mentioned that he did not have a PC capable of running VR HMDs just yet and, when asked by Radial-G‘s Sam Watts, explained that he was borrowing a company PC in the meantime. He also jokingly suggested that his office will no longer be a meeting room as he’ll turn it into a space that can accommodate the device. As for VR experiences he was excited to play, Yoshida pointed toward Valve’s own software release, The Lab.

Of course, this is relevant given that Sony is working on its own VR HMD in the upcoming PlayStation VR device for PlayStation 4. The kit is due to launch in October 2016 for $399 USD, which is around half the price of the $799 HTC Vive and a lot less than the $699 Oculus Rift, though it doesn’t include the PlayStation Camera needed to actually use the kit. That can be bought separately or picked up as part of a launch bundle along with the unit, two PlayStation Move motion controllers and a copy of PlayStation VR Worlds for $499.
