Sennheiser has revealed a new product aimed at the virtual reality (VR) broadcast market, the VR Mic. In addition, the company is looking for innovative VR content creators worldwide to help build a community and shape the future of VR audio.

Few details on the VR Mic are available at present, however Sennheiser labels it as a ‘tetrahedral Ambisonics microphone designed with VR in mind’. No pricing or release date information has been revealed.

Applications for the VR Creators Program are open now, and those selected to participate will receive a Creators Kit – including VR Mic, cabling, accessories, quick guide and the beta version of Sennheiser’s A to B format encoder plugin. The Creators Kit will be available on loan for three months.

The application deadline is 26th April 2016, and once the application period closes Sennheiser will select 30 applicants to receive a Creator’s Kit based upon their suitableness for this research project. Selected will be contacted before 1st May 2016. VRFocus will keep you updated with all the latest details on the VR Mic and other VR initiatives from Sennheiser.
