One of the surprise announcements during the recent Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2016 in Los Angeles, came from Capcom and Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) with the news that Resident Evil 7 would also have a virtual reality (VR) version. Now the developer has released a reactions video of those trying the videogame for the first time.
Supporting SIE’s PlayStation VR head-mounted display (HMD) the VR experience split into two parts. First players explore a decaying, derelict house as an un-named character. As visitors explore they come across various interactive objects, one of which is a VCR and a tape. Activating the VCR takes players into the second section, taking on the role of Clancy, a cameraman working on a haunted house TV show during an earlier timeline.
Those interviewed in the reaction video all elicited the same sort of comments saying stuff like: “It was actually scary” and “It made my stomach so nervous, it made me kinda sick. It’s the scariest Resident Evil I’ve ever played.” Also interviewed was Paul Anderson the director of the Resident Evil movies, who said: “For me it was the atmosphere, just being immersed in this old creepy house, The texture and details of the graphics is amazing, you really feel you are there. You see the texture in the floor boards, the moths hovering around, I mean it’s a really beautiful piece of work. Very immersive atmosphere, and very scary, a slow creeping horror.
Resident Evil 7 is scheduled for release on 24th January 2017. The PlayStation VR HMD will arrive on 13th October 2016, with over 50 titles due to launch by the end of the year.
