The hustle and bustle of daily life can be stressful at points, so making use of virtual reality (VR) Cubicle Ninjas launched Guided Meditation VR back in 2014. Supporting the second Oculus Rift development kit (DK2), the experience put you in calm, relaxing environments such as a beach, to sooth and alleviate those everyday stresses. Today the studio has announced the launch of Guided Meditation VR for the Samsung Gear VR head-mounted display (HMD), so users can enjoy the experience wherever they like.

Free to download for the mobile HMD, Guided Meditation VR transports users to four environments – an autumnal forest, a Japanese village, the tropical island beach, and a snow peak in the arctic. Within each location, users can find four different meditation spaces, making for a total of 16 unique relaxation areas, with additional free environment and mediation content due to be released monthly.

So what is the app good for? Cubicle Ninjas description states: “Guided Meditation VR’s usage ranges from escaping the everyday, to pain management, pre/postoperative anxiety, therapy, senior care, among others, making its lasting effects limitless. Meditation content is fully customizable, drawing from Zen, Compassion, or Relaxation series crafted by leading experts.”

Since its Oculus Rift launch the developer said the experience has been downloaded 50,000 times so far. Guided Meditation VR has also been the winner of the Most Innovative Game Award at Michigan State’s Meaningful Play Conference.

Guided Meditation VR isn’t the only VR project the studio’s been working on. In April this year the team released Spectacle, an app for Gear VR that allows users to alter images taken with the phone’s camera in VR. The app features over 100 custom filters, and images can then be shared on social networks.

VRFocus will continue its coverage of Cubicle Ninjas, reporting back with any further announcements.
