The past year has seen the growth of Project CARS, with Slightly Mad Studios most recently releasing the Game of the Year Edition for the videogame along with trailer, which also included support for virtual reality (VR). Today it has been announced that the patch which supports gameplay on the HTC Vive head-mounted display (HMD) has now become available on Steam.

According to the latest blog post made by the developers, the patch has a whole host of different additions and fixes with the Vive support being the most notable. Some of the other features of the patch which were more explicitly described and pointed out were: the customisation of SteamVR’s room when using the Vive which means a personal look of the 3D space surrounding the menus, which the developers commented “We’re looking forward to seeing all the creative Project CARS themed custom backgrounds that our fans come up with. :)”, and the addition of VR mouse support, gaze control support, and ability to swap between the two and use them as well as the custom controllers and gamepads.

Other fixes and additions in the patch include bug fixes, improvements made to the seating and camera position, the design of the game is also improved with depth of field and increased detail of things such as rain and dirt.

One thing the developers have noted which may affect the performance of the VR versions of Project CARS, however, is “Due to the extent of the Virtual Reality updates, we strongly recommend that you delete the configuration files that store the various settings. These are found in “Users<username>DocumentsProject CARS” and are the files with XML extension.”

The patch is currently available on Steam and can be used right away. For more on Project CARS as well as the latest news and updates in the world of VR, make sure to check back with VRFocus.
