Oculus Issue Update on Rift Shipping Status

The Oculus Rift has suffered a somewhat stuttered launch, with the early Kickstarter backers receiving their free units on time and yet many having been left unaware to the status of their order. Oculus VR has offered an update on the situation this morning, and offered a token gesture to all who placed their pre-order for the head-mounted display (HMD) will this issue ensued.

Blaming an ‘unexpected component shortage’ for the delay in getting the Oculus Rift into consumers hands, Oculus VR has promised to update those with pre-orders in place by Tuesday, 12th April 2016. Futhermore, the company has promised to cover the shipping and handling costs of all pre-orders secured through to today, 2nd April 2016.

An e-mail was dispatched to all who had pre-ordered at ~7am GMT this morning. The full e-mail is available below and VRFocus will keep you updated with all the latest details on the Oculus Rift pre-order shipments.

We know you’re anxious to receive your Oculus Rift and apologize for not updating your order status sooner. We’ve been working through an unexpected component shortage, and unfortunately, that issue has impacted the original shipping estimates for some early customers.

We’re working hard to get up-to-date ship windows, and you should expect to see your order status updated on oculus.com by Tuesday, April 12. Although many Rifts will be arriving on schedule and in line with original estimates, we’ll be covering shipping and handling costs for all orders placed through today.

We’re shipping rifts everyday. Don’t hesitate to reach out to the Oculus support team if you have additional questions.
