Broadcasting live sports in 360-degree video has been gaining momentum over the past six months as the virtual reality (VR) industry expands. One of the companies spear heading this movement is NextVR which has live-streamed the NBA, football, Nascar and more for viewers with head-mounted displays (HMDs). For Nascar NextVR collaborated with Fox Sports and the pair have teamed up again for a boxing event this Saturday, 23rd January.

Filmed live from the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California, the Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) matches will be airing on FOX at 8:00pm EST, headlined by undefeated fighter, Danny “Swift” Garcia (31-0, 18 KOs), against former three-division world champion Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (33-3-1, 18 KOs).

“This is the latest example of NextVR’s commitment to bring the most compelling live content to sports fans in virtual reality,” said Brad Allen, executive chairman of NextVR in a statement. “We strive to deliver a great virtual reality experience and the key is great, exciting content.”

NextVR will have a multiple camera set-up around the ring, including ringside, to capture all the action, providing fight fans an immersive front row seat. The VR live stream will also include fight commentary and graphics, providing viewers with all the information they need.

“We continue to explore ways to offer FOX Sports viewers the most current and immersive technology available. Sports fans expect FOX to be on the cutting edge with all of our broadcasts, and through the FOX Lab initiative, we will continue to experiment with new and exciting technologies with all of our partners,” said David Nathanson, Head of Business Operations for FOX Sports.

The PBC boxing broadcast will be available free through NextVR’s portal, and for Samsung Gear VR owners through NextVR’s app. VRFocus will continue to bring you all the latest updates from NextVR and its future VR live-streaming events.
