Whilst the landscape of the internet changes year on year, one thing that remains very high in demand, as well as in profit, is the online gambling industry. It has been around a decade since the online gambling boom and whilst it is perhaps not as visible as it was a few years back there is no denying that card games such as poker have expanded out of the casinos to become a more regular part of mainstream social activities.

Since online gaming and gambling have brought a whole host of different online poker websites it is perhaps not surprising that we would come across a social VR poker experience on New To VR eventually. This app, Casino VR: Poker, allows multiple players to join a poker game in a virtual casino; taking on an avatar which is able to interact with others in the game. It also features multiple tables, head tracking and spatial voice chat so you can talk socially or, of course, bluff and taunt your way to victory.

This is, perhaps more than we’ve often seen on New To VR, a taste of what is to come as no doubt this will be the first of many such experiences. And as seen in the video below it certainly provides an engaging experience for those using it even if currently in Beta. (Caution, as the video does contain some NSFW language).

Compatible with the Oculus Rift DK1 and DK2 head-mounted displays (HMDS), Casino VR: Poker requires SDK version 0.8 or higher in order to run. Full specification requirements can be found on the Oculus VR Share website.

VRFocus will bring you another New to VR selection very soon.
