Rebellion, the UK-based developer behind the likes of Alien vs. Predator and the Sniper Elite series, is currently hard at work on its very first virtual reality (VR) videogame, Battlezone. This reboot of the classic tank battling experience from 1980 is heading first to PlayStation 4 with support for the PlayStation VR head-mounted display (HMD) before later arriving on PC with integration with the Oculus Rift. Recently Rebellion has released a new GIF for its upcoming title, which showcases the in-game radar that players will utilise. That GIF can now be seen below.

As explained on the Battlezone Twitter account, the radar will be a ‘vital part’ of the Cobra tank that players commandeer. It displays the location of enemies within the title’s neon environments, allowing players to hunt them down while also making sure that they aren’t surrounded themselves. Meanwhile, there’s plenty of havoc being caused on the battlefield itself, as missiles pour down and enemy tanks explode in bursts of pixelated fire.

Rebellion is aiming to release Battlezone as a launch title for PlayStation VR, though Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) hasn’t yet confirmed if this will be the case. The device is set to launch in the first half of 2016, with a specific price and release date still to be revealed.  Either way, you can expect the title to be available within the next eight months or so. It remains to be seen when the Oculus Rift version will arrive, however.

VRFocus will continue to follow Battlezone closely, reporting back with the latest updates on the title’s progress.
