Following the announcement of Google Daydream at Google I/O it is clear that the Oculus backed Samsung Gear VR has a new rival in the smartphone based head-mounted display (HMD) category of virtual reality (VR). However, just because there’s a new contender on the block that doesn’t mean that the Gear VR is going away any time soon, and as usual there’s a variety of new games, apps and utilities heading on to the Oculus store.

If you’re a fan of checking, folding, bluffing and going all-in the first title up will be just up your street. Casino VR Poker, from developer Casino VR is a free, multiplayer title that we first featured on VRFocus back in January as part of New To VR when it was then an Oculus Rift title on Oculus VR Share. Then, as now, Casino VR: Poker allows multiple players from the comfort of their own homes to join a poker session in a virtual casino where you can either relax with a few hands or alternatively attempt to go all out for victory and climb to the top of the game leaderboards. In-game avatars mirror head movements of the players at home, giving an additional layer to the game as players look for tells and other indicators. Spatial voice chat, enabling you to make idle conversation – or lead your opponents into a false sense of security is also included in the videogame, which the developers promise will also receive additional content and features in ‘the coming weeks.

Are you a card shark, or merely a minnow? It’s time to find out. Casino VR: Poker can be found via the Oculus Store for Gear VR as a free download and it is cross-compatible with the Oculus Rift version. VRFocus will bring you more news and information regarding the Samsung Gear VR as and when we get it.
