Kickstarter Edition Oculus Rift Already Appearing on eBay

The Oculus Rift virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD) may have launched earlier this week, but only for a select few. People that backed the kit’s crowd-funding campaign all the way back in 2012 should be receiving their free units now, though it appears those that pre-ordered the device early will have to wait at least a few more days. Perhaps unsurprisingly, though, some people that were lucky enough to get a Kickstarter unit are already listing them off for auction on eBay.

So far three Kickstarter edition units can be found on the internet auction site, and all of them are already priced well beyond the $599 USD/£499 GBP price point. At the time of writing (and screencapped above), one kit has £1,245.85 bid thus far, which works out to $1792.43. For that price, you could get one of the Oculus Ready PC Bundles that includes the HMD and a PC actually capable of running the experiences that are compatible with it.

Currently pre-orders for the Oculus Rift are backdated until July 2016, though some units are expected to arrive at physical Best Buy outlets in the US at an undisclosed date. The kit’s main rival, the HTC Vive, goes on sale next week on 5th April 2016.
