When it comes to virtual reality (VR) either websites like VRFocus, VR studios, creators or other stakeholders will often show you amazing, out of this world experiences that defy expectations. Apps that can seemingly bend what’s possible and show you things you never thought you’d see achieved.  For some however all they need to do the impossible is a bike or a skateboard.  Now in its 21st year the X Games (Extreme Games) has become a sporting institution, not just for BMX bikers, motorcyclists and skateboarders but for skiers, snowboarders and snowmobile riders as well in the Winter X Games.  It is where the big names, the icons of all the related past-times come to see who is the best and it often home to a great many firsts.

This year’s event will host another first, as HTC will be demoing the HTC Vive to attendees for the full length of the event. Vive units will be available to try out in the Galleria area. With a large number of experiences already available for the Valve-backed head-mounted display (HMD) on Steam it is unclear which HTC Vive compatible titles will be available for individuals to try. However, it could very well be the same titles that were demonstrated during the system’s American tour that took place during the latter half of 2015.

X Games 2016 takes place in Austin, Texas from June 2nd to June 5th and will be covered by its founder and controller, the television sports channel ESPN and sister broadcaster ABC. ESPN has previously covered the use of VR as an emerging tool for training in the field of sport, a topic we covered on this week’s VR Vs.

VRFocus will bring you more information about the HTC Vive hardware and news on upcoming titles when it becomes available and for the very latest click the HTC Vive category link on the top bar of VRFocus.com.
