There’s only a couple of days left of the Game Developers Conference (GDC) 2016, and its been a busy week so far for virtual reality (VR) news. Today HTC has now announced a list of UK retail partners that consumer can pre-order from, as well as demo the head-mounted display (HMD) to understand what VR is all about.

Five locations have been revealed across the country, so customers can go in, try VR and pre-order if they like it. Those locations are: Currys PC World, Leeds (Birstall); Currys PC World, Reading; Currys PC World, Tottenham Court Road; Overclockers UK, Newcastle-under-Lyme and Scan Computers International Ltd, Bolton.

Starting today customers can pre-order and demo the HTC Vive, which will then be shipped in May. Peter Frolund, HTC’s VP for VR (Europe) commented, “Through our partnerships with the UK’s leading consumer electronic retailers, we’re thrilled to offer the public additional avenues to experience and pre-order ViveTM at in-store locations nationwide. What truly brings ViveTM to life is trying it first hand, and we can’t wait to bring this opportunity to as many consumers as possible”.

The HTC Vive costs £689.00, and the benefit of going in store (if they’re nearby) is that’ll save you the £57.60 in shipping costs if you ordered directly from the dedicated HTC Vive website.

For that price you get two wireless motion-tracked controllers, room scale movement, and HMD featuring a built in camera. For a limited time the headset will also ship with three VR experiences: Tilt Brush, Fantastic Contraption and Job Simulator: The 2050 Archives. HTC has yet said how long this offer is on for.

VRFocus will continue it coverage of HTC Vive, reporting back any further announcements.
