Its been a big week of announcements for virtual reality (VR) fans, with the PlayStation Experience featuring an impressive selection of titles being developed for the PlayStation VR head-mounted display (HMD). Harmonix has been throughly supporting VR with the Rock Band VR announcement for Oculus Rift and Music VR for PlayStation VR, also seems to be expanding onto Valve’s Steam platform.
In a post on Reddit a user has posted an image of Harmonix Music VR listings on Steam. The image shows four categories – Valve VR Internal Test Package, Music VR, Music VR for Beta Testing, Music VR Developer Comp. The Valve VR Internal Test Package is likely to be for the developers to check issues to do with compatibility. Music VR for Beta Testing is exactly what it says, with Harmonix possibly giving out CD keys for testers. While Music VR Developer Comp, may mean competition or compilation, but again maybe only with a CD key given out. The most telling is simply Music VR, which shows store or CD key, almost definitely indicating the title will be available via the Steam Store. There’s been no official confirmation by Harmonix on other VR platforms the developer is planning to port to, but this could well mean Harmonix Music VR maybe arriving on Oculus Rift and HTC Vive headsets.
Harmonix Music VR had originally been developed for the Samsung Gear VR mobile HMD. This is a unique music visualizer that, according to the developer, allows viewers to ‘climb inside’ their songs for the first time.
