Due for release next month on Steam is a sci-fi adventure title called Space Rift. Developed by Vibrant Core for Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, Samsung Gear VR and PlayStation VR head-mounted displays (HMDs), Space Rift has now received its first official trailer which includes gameplay footage.

The single player, first-person videogame puts players into the role of veteran pilot Casey Black in this heavily story driven title. After Earth has been left uninhabitable by a meteor storm mankind moves to Mars to begin anew. Unfortunately two large organizations Weyss and Pandora enslave those that live on Mars, and its up to you to take them on, be the hero, and liberate humanity.

Designed solely for virtual reality (VR), Space Rift is a cockpit-based shooter allowing players to wander the stars, engaging in battles, and collecting resources to upgrade the ship and its weapons along the way.

Space Rift will launch across the various supported devices in stages over the next few months. Publisher bitComposer Interactive GmbH will release the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive versions in July 2016 for $19.99 USD / £14.99 GBP. The Gear VR versions has also been scheduled for Summer 2016, but no exact date has been given, while for PlayStation VR October 2016 has been slated.

It was only last week at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) during Sony Interactive Entertainment’s (SIE’s) press conference that the company finally revealed 13th October as the official launch date for PlayStation VR. With Space Rift already available by then for the other platforms it’s likely the videogame could be available on day one for PlayStation VR, although its yet to be confirmed.

This is the first title to be released by indie studio Vibrant Core for VR. Based-in Bonn, Germany, the team began working on Space Rift back in 2015.

As and when we get further details on Space Rift, VRFocus will bring you the latest.
