Esper Updates Adds Controller Support on Gear VR

It’s not long now until indie developer Coatsink Software launches its first title for the Oculus Rift virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD). That title is Esper, a port of its first-person puzzle-based videogame that debuted on the Gear VR mobile-based HMD last year. The company isn’t done with that original version, though, and recently released a new update for it that brings it in line with the upcoming PC-based version and fixes some general bugs that players have encountered.

The update adds support for controllers to the experience. At release, Esper could only be played using the Gear VR’s on-board touchpad. Here players would tap the pad to pick up objects with their mind, and then swipe back and forth and up and down to move it around an environment to the desired location. The Oculus Rift, however, doesn’t have a touchpad, and will instead rely on controller support. As such, it makes sense that this support has also found its way into the original version of the videogame.

This isn’t all the Coatsink Software is working on VR. A sequel, Esper 2, hit Gear VR late last year and is also expected to come to the Oculus Rift later down the line. The developer is also helping Boneloaf bring its popular multiplayer brawler, Gang Beasts, to the Oculus Rift.
