Epic Games Reveal Building in Unreal Engine 4 VR Editor Video

The Unreal Engine 4 middleware by Epic Games is one of the most popular videogame development engines on the market, being used by numerous studios across the world to create virtual reality (VR) titles. Today via its Twitch live-stream Epic Games’ CEO and founder Tim Sweeney revealed that studios will soon be able to use the engine in VR. Now the team has released an early preview video of the software in action.

The official description reads: “Epic Games’ Tim Sweeney and Mike Fricker give a first glimpse of VR content creation using the first VR Editor for a game engine. Using the Unreal Editor in VR mode developers can create content in VR using the HTC Vive and Oculus motion controls.”

The video shows how intuitive Epic Games are trying to make VR development using the motion controllers of the HTC Vive and Oculus Touch. Users will have the full Unreal Engine 4 editor, just in VR. Move, copy and resize objects, zoom in and out of the game world, and bring up menu options as if using a tablet.

More details will be unveiled at the Game Developers Conference (GDC) 2016 in March, and VRFocus will be there to bring you all the latest details.
