EON Sports VR the company that developed the Sidekiq football-simulator software used by NFL team the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, has teamed up with former Major League Baseball (MLB) star Jason Giambi to promote Project OPS. Consisting of software, a Bluetooth controller and a mobile virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display, the project aims to teach players how to understand the strike zone and recognise pitches.

Project OPS allows users to experience realistic game-like repetitions through the power of VR, while getting one on one instructions from one of the MLB’s best all time hitters, Jason Giambi.

Standing in the batter’s box, players then take batting practice against a Virtual Pitcher. Quizzed and challenged in real time on whether the pitches thrown are balls or strikes, users make their decisions with the supplied bluetooth device.

After Strike Zone Awareness, players will be introduced to Pitch Tracking.  Not only will they have to identify balls and strikes, but will now have to identify which type of a pitch is being thrown at you: Fastball, Curveball, Slider, etc.

The Project OPS Strike Zone Awareness Application is available for iOS and Android, and can be pre-ordered in two packages. For $59 USD the package includes the software and Bluetooth controller, while the $159 USD package also includes one SIDEKIQ VR Headset. These prices are pre-order specials and will go up after the software launches on 14th December 2015. Further details can be found on EON Sports website.

VRFocus will continue to bring you all the latest news and announcements relating to VR.
