Following the announcement of the $599 USD price tag for the Oculus Rift virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD) earlier this week the company confirmed that it would also be offering bundles of its Oculus Ready PCs with the kit, starting at a price of $1499 USD. It wasn’t revealed which of the various models from various manufacturers would be hosting this bundle, but Dell has at now revealed two of its offerings, one from its own line and the other from its gaming hardware-focused subsidiary, Alienware.
According to IGN, Dell will offer Oculus Ready PC bundles for the Alienware X51 and Dell XPS 8900 at $1600. Both of these rigs costs around $1199 on their own so, when added to the $599 for the Oculus Rift, the bundle should total around $1800, saving customers some $200. These PCs will meet the recommended specifications for the Oculus Rift, meaning owners will be able to play all of the content that hits the Oculus Store when the device launches on 28th March 2016 and beyond.
It remains to be seen just how long these rigs will be up to the task of playing VR titles, as improved software will no doubt mean a greater demand on the hardware in the years to come. But that’s not something fans should worry about now, as any Oculus Ready PC should be good to meet the recommended specs for the device for some time.
