ARK: Survival Evolved has received a slew of updates and additions to the pre-release version by developer Studio Wildcard over the last few months. The virtual reality (VR) compatible title which currently supports the Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD) now gets its next update, which includes one of the smallest dinosaurs to grace the game yet in the Compsognathus. Players will also get a new recipe/cooking system and additional items.

The diminutive, curious, but still dangerous Compsognathus, is more commonly known as Compy.  Alone, Compys are unafraid of humans and are neither dangerous nor aggressive which makes it an ideal pet that is attentive to human endeavours and their tools. In larger packs, however the little creature remembers its carnivorous nature. When a group of Compsognathus congregate, they intuitively transform into an aggressive, carnivorous pack. Their distress call carries quite far, rapidly alerting the tribe and its pets to danger more efficiently, which also increases the likelihood of a few Compys quickly forming into a ‘Compy Gang.’

New items added to ARK: Survival Evolved include a powerful rocket turret, homing sea mines for water defence and wall lamps to light up players homes. Persistent Tribe Logs for players to track and monitor their Tribe’s activities and events when they were offline has also been added and a new system for survivors to design and craft their own unique food and drink recipes.

While the early access version of ARK: Survival Evolved supports the Oculus Rift HMD, Studio Wildcard will be launching the full version of the title in June 2016 along with Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions. The latter supporting the PlayStation VR HMD.

VRFocus will continue to follow the progress of ARK: Survival Evolved closely, reporting back on the latest announcements.
