UK indie developer MAG Studios has today launched a KickStarter crowd funding campaign to finish and polish the development of its new :. Styled after famous 90s sci-fi videogames such as Freespace, Wing commander and Star wars to name a few MAG Studios is looking to raise £25,000 GBP with the campaign.

The studio is creating CDF Starfighter to focus purely on space combat rather than being bogged down with lore, stats, menus and micro transactions. Using Unreal Engine 4, MAG Studios’ space combat simulator will feature simple controls, an immersive story-line, co-op and a competitive multiplayer approach. In CDF Starfighter will be able to fly 6 different ships each with their own advantages and disadvantages.  Each ship is very different and certain ships are designed for specific roles. These are: Starfighter Type-Y, Assault Fighter, Heavy Starfighter, Scout, Heavy Gunship and Transport.

The game in its current alpha state supports the Oculus Rift DK2 head-mounted display (HMD), running on Oculus VR’s 0.8 software development kit (SDK). The studio has also said it will be aiming full VR compatibility with a variety of headset manufacturers by the time of release.

VRFocus will continue to follow the latest updates from MAG Studios on CDF Starfighter’s development and its progress on Kickstarter.
