AT&T and TOMS Launch A Walk in Their Shoes 360 Video

Virtual reality (VR) tech is making strides in raising awareness of global issues and the work going on to aid them. Experiences such as VRSE’s Clouds Over Sidra have helped shine a spotlight on situations and given audiences a deeper sense of empathy. Another such example of this work has come online this week. Popular telecommunications group AT&T and shoe shop TOMS have teamed up to release a brand new 360 degree video named A Walk in their Shoes, which you can now watch below.

A Walk in Their Shoes is a VR experience which follows a TOMS customer as he travels to Colombia to meet a child that he helped, and the main concept of the video is that for every pair of shoes TOMS sells they also donate a pair to someone in need. This video highlights that arrangement and celebrates ten years of a partnership with AT&T, and the partnered companies have also released a making of video available, which is also shot in 360 degrees. The experience was showcased this week in Santa Monica, California, in a giant shoecase.

In the blog post written by Blake Mycoskie, TOMS Founder & Chief Shoe Giver, he explains “Now, we’re sharing a new way for people to experience the power of giving.” Mycoskie spoke of the customer’s travels, saying “He told me how this experience has changed his outlook on the world and his own life.”

Of course, you can watch these videos within VR itself by heading to the Android version of the YouTube app, hitting the Google Cardboard icon and then inserting your phone into a head-mounted display (HMD). Gear VR users can find it on the Oculus Video app but also watch it by going to the Samsung Internet Browser app and going to YouTube from there. TOMS itself will be distributing 100,000 of its own VR viewers to be included with select pairs of shoes.
