It’s a big moment for the Gear VR mobile-based virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD) from Samsung and Oculus VR. The kit has this week launched in the US, arriving at the doors of keen VR fans. Prior to launch the device was available to pre-order at three outlets: Samsung’s own site, Amazon and Best Buy. Now, within just a day of being on offer, it looks like the latter of these stores has already sold out of their stock of units.

Best Buy is currently sold out of units online, though it may still be possible to grab one from one of the select stores that is already selling the device. Amazon, meanwhile, also states that the kit is temporarily out of stock, though many that pre-ordered the kit through the company claim that their units were never shipped in the first place. It’s not clear exactly when either stores will be getting in a new batch of devices.

The consumer Gear VR costs just $99 USD and works with Samsung’s range of 2015 smartphones. That includes that flagship Galaxy S6, the curved Galaxy S6 edge, the enlarged Galaxy Note 5, and the Galaxy S6 edge plus.

VRFocus will continue to follow Gear VR closely, reporting back with the latest updates on the devices.
