Talk to anyone involved in the virtual reality (VR) industry and one of the main points they’ll try to get across to people who haven’t experienced VR, is to try it before they form an opinion. Currently that can be tricky as the main head-mounted displays (HMDs) like the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive haven’t released yet. One of the best ways to delve into VR is by way of an event. While shows like E3 and Gamescom are popular they also only happen annually. A better way is to find one of the many single day or evening events held by local groups. Those in California are catered for better than most, and in December an evening for VR enthusiasts called Off Planet VR will taking place.

Off Planet VR will be an evening of VR fun and games, allowing attendees to connect with industry pioneers, developers and evangelists in the heart of downtown Berkeley, California at NextSpace. Organisers of Off Planet VR have now announced a call for entries for anyone interested in demoing their VR platform, game, experience or gear.

The deadline is short, with the submission deadline in just over a weeks time, on 25th October 2015 at 5pm PT. For those interested follow this link.

Currently confirmed for the event is High Fidelity, who will be demoing open source software for shared VR, Grizzly Peak 3D and CalHacks 2.0.

The final program of exhibitors will be announced in early November, with Off Planet VR taking place on Thursday, 3rd December 2015 at 6pm. VRFocus will be reporting on the full line-up when details are released.
