Samsung is making a big push for its Gear VR mobile-based virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD) with its latest smartphones, the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge. At the handset’s announcement in Barcelona, Spain yesterday the company revealed that the first people to pre-order them would be getting a free Gear VR unit as well as early access to the phones themselves, arriving three days earlier than the usual release date. Not every retailer is offering this deal, however, though the UK companies that are taking part have now been revealed.

Both the Carphone Warehouse and Vodafone are offering the Gear VR for free with Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge pre-orders. Those that do take advantage of the offer will also get the kit on 5th March 2016 instead of the usual release on 8th March. The standard kit has a price tag of £569 GBP while its curved companion costs some £639. Interestingly enough, the official Samsung UK isn’t taking part in the deal, instead charging the usual £79.99 in order to include the kit as an add-on.

Of course, if you want to get a Gear VR, you don’t necessarily need to pick up the Galaxy S7. The consumer kit works with all of Samsung’s 2015 smartphones, which includes the likes of the Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge, Galaxy S6 Edge Plus and Galaxy Note 5.
