For over a year now, VRFocus has been closely following the progress of WakingApp, a cloud-based platform for creating virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) content through its content creation platform called ENTiTi VR Content Creator. The platform’s aim is to allow anyone to make content for these new technologies in a matter of hours and then share them via an app, with absolutely no development skills required.

When it launched to the public in February this year, content created on WakingApp was able to be viewed using mobile head-mounted displays (HMDs) such as Google Cardboard, Zeiss VR One, FreeFly VR and the Samsung Gear VR and since then WakingApp’s creators say hundreds of virtual reality and augmented reality creations have been published to the WakingApp iOS and Android app daily by non-developers around the world.. Now, however, the platforms available to users of the app is growing with the announcement that users of WakingApp will also be able to publish their content on HTC Vive and Oculus Rift headsets, with Internet of Things (IoT) support planned for the future, but still with no technical skills required.

“We are on the verge of the biggest evolution that mankind has experienced. The way humans interact with our environment will be completely different,” said Alon Melchner, Founder and President of WakingApp. “We set a goal to enable future technologies like VR, AR and IoT so everyone will be able to take part in it not only as a viewer but also as a creator of content. Very soon the focus will shift from hardware to content. Gone are the days where an engineering degree was required to be a part of the virtual reality revolution. IoT is going to be the next technology enabled by WakingApp in the next updates and it will be combined with AR and VR as the interface for IoT.”

WakingApp is precisely the kind of easy and accessible content creation platform that will be required to make the VR industry grow and achieve mass market appeal quickly. VRFocus will continue to follow the progress of the app and report back with developments as they happen.
