Game Jams have long been a stalwart of the videogame event calendar, and the virtual reality (VR) versions are just as popular, with a number of indie developers releasing titles originally created at previous events. Skydome Studios with its single-player music-based experience, Audio Arena and DRIFT by SharpSense are two examples that have made their way to the Gear VR head-mounted display (HMD). Now meetup group VR Netherlands (VRNL) has announced a new VR Game Jam will be taking place in Rotterdam in February.

VR Game Jams like to revolve around a theme and the VRNL event is no different. With retro videogames massively popular with gamers of all ages the organisers want attendees to build variations of their favourite classics, using VR technology. So the Game Jam theme is Arcade Games – beginning with classics like Pong, Pac Man, Donkey Kong and Space Invaders.

The VRNL VR Game Jam will be taking place on Saturday 13th at 9am – Sunday 14th, February 2016, at the Erasmus Centre for Entrepreneurship, 3029 AK, Rotterdam, Netherlands.

Developers will need bring their own equipment, whether that’s an Oculus Rift, Google Cardboard or GearVR headsets, Unity, Unreal or WebGL software, basically   whatever you’re used to working with. VRNL will also be giving out complimentary Google Cardboards when joining the Game Jam.

Further information can be found at vrgamejam.nl, as well as the sign up form. VRFocus will continue to follow the latest VR Game Jam announcements as they’re released.
