Kickstarter crowd-funding is one of the most popular ways to attract funding and media coverage for indie videogame developers. While not all are successful in their campaigns, and some struggle even after hitting their goals it’s still a useful avenue to exploit. Launching a campaign this week is Brett Jackson, who is looking for funding to create virtual reality (VR) puzzle-platformer, Dimensional.

Jackson has already put several months work into the VR title as he had a demo on display at the annual VRTGO VR and Augmented Reality (AR) conference and expo in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, UK, back in November which won the events competition.

He’s now looking to raise £1000 GBP to further Dimensional’s development, aiming to support both the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive head-mounted displays (HMDs). Reward tiers begin at £2 GBP and rise up to a maximum of £250 GBP. To get a digital copy of the videogame backers will need to go for the £4 GBP tier and above, while £8 GBP will give backers early access to the alpha/beta program.

A four level demo is already available to download for anyone who owns an Oculus Rift DK2 headset. The demo will support Oculus VR’s software development kit (SDK) v0.6 – v0.8.

Dimensional will release with 10 planned levels, but if the campaign hits its £2000 GBP stretch goal 5 more will be added. At £2,500 GBP a collectables feature will be added to help players stuck on difficult puzzles. Jackson also has a £3000 GBP goal for HTC Vive support, he does state on the Kickstarter page that this will be removed if he gets his hands on a free developer kit, investing the funds back into the gameplay.

VRFocus will continue to report on the progress of Dimensional’s Kickstarter campaign, reporting back with any further updates.
