Soft drink company Mountain Dew isn’t new to virtual reality (VR) and the immersive power the technology has to promote products. Way back in 2014 the company’s director of brand marketing Jamal Henderson said: “I one hundred percent think that this is where brands are going. I just hope they don’t do it as fast as we do.” Mountain Dew is continuing that trend with the release of two new 360-degree videos each representing a new flavour.

The purpose of the two videos, one for the Baja Blast flavour and one for Pitch Black is to gain votes. The more one is viewed more than the other the greater the votes that flavour gets. It’s just one of a series of ways consumers can vote.

Both videos are centred around Nascar, where the viewer is in the racing seat and with you is one of the DEW Nascar drivers: Dale Earnhardt Jr., Kasey Kahne or Chase Elliott.

Not only does each video represent a different flavour its also a different track. Baja Blast takes place across a beach and desert, while Pitch Black features a futuristic neon-lit cityscape.

Then to take the promotion one step further Mountain Dew will launch the DEWcision VR Racing for Oculus Rift, allowing players to fully control the race car and choose which route they wish to drive.

The two 360-degree videos can be seen below, and VRFocus will keep you updated on Mountain Dew’s latest VR promotions.
