VRFocus has been reporting on developer Guy Godin’s virtual reality (VR) project Virtual Desktop for around a year now. The software allows those who own an Oculus Rift or HTC Vive head-mounted display (HMD) to use their PC in VR with a giant screen. Now Godin has released a trailer for version 1.0 of the software.
Alongside being able to view your desktop screen and control your PC as you normally would, to browse the web, watch movies, Netflix or play games, Virtual Desktop also features: hardware accelerated 360-degree video playback; ability to play/stream YouTube 360 videos; browse and view 360 photos; MilkDrop support for music visualization; 3D Side-By-Side video support; game launcher with voice commands; multi-monitor and environment editor to create custom environments.
On Steam the release date is listed as 28th March, Oculus Rift launch day, but owners of the DK1 or DK2 versions can download a copy from the Steam page.
At last years Proto Awards Virtual Desktop met with success by being nominated in three different categories, and winning the Best GUI category.
