The Leap Motion hand-tracking controller has been available for quite a few years now as an add-on for owners of virtual reality (VR) head-mounted displays (HMDs) like Oculus Rift DK2. Originally designed for desktop PC’s Leap Motion realised there was a market for its device in the VR industry, creating a VR Developer Mount. Now with the launch of the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive HMDs onto the consumer market, the company has revealed a new Universal VR Developer Mount.
Only available to pre-order currently, the Universal VR Developer Mount comes in a kit that includes a 15 foot USB 2.0 cable extender and a custom 3M adhesive to properly secure the mount, all for $19.99 USD (obviously the controller is purchased separately).
The main difference between the two mount models is that the latest version now has a curved back, allowing a better fitting to the HTC Vive which has a curved front. And the cable extender then allows the device’s Room Scale tracking system to be used unhindered. The mount can also be fitted to the Oculus Rift CV1 HMD as well.
From 5th April anyone ordering the VR Developer Mount will also receive the 15 foot USB 2.0 cable extender and custom adhesive. For those pre-ordering the newly re-designed mount, shipments are due to begin at the end of May 2016.
