Over the weekend both the HTC Vive team and ILMxLAB, announced that Star Wars: Trials on Tatooine would launch today for the head-mounted display (HMD). While no time was given VRFocus can announce that the title is available to download now through Steam for free.

Star Wars: Trials on Tatooine is the first official virtual reality (VR) videogame for the headset, taking place on the titular planet that all fans know.

ILMxLAB  state in the Steam description: “The creative minds of Lucasfilm’s ILMxLAB present a virtual reality experiment set in a galaxy far, far away…Star Wars: Trials on Tatooine. For the first time ever, wield a lightsaber as you leap into action in the most immersive Star Wars virtual reality experience ever. Be transported to the desert world of Tatooine, repair the iconic Millennium Falcon, and defend the plucky droid hero R2-D2 from incoming stormtroopers in this captivating experience set after the events of Return of the Jedi.”

The experience first got revealed at the 2016 Game Developers Conference (GDC) in March with a short teaser trailer released to the public showing the Millennium Falcon, R2-D2 and some lightsaber action thrown in. Now HTC Vive owners can join in the action, repairing the spaceship before the Stormtroopers start wading in.
