One of the largest film franchises, Star Wars, will be launching the seventh film in the series The Force Awakens in December, and to coincide with the release is a newly developed virtual reality (VR) experience. Created by Lucasfilm, Industrial Light & Magic Experience Lab (ILMxLAB) and Skywalker Sound alongside Google and Verizon the Star Wars: The Force Awakens VR experience will be released on Wednesday 2nd December 2015.

The experience features a compelling story and exclusive content, tying directly into the opening of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, using the latest VR technology. It will be available for both Android and iOS devices, and is designed to be used with a Google Cardboard or similar head-mounted display (HMD) for the most immersive effect. The experience will launch via the official Star Wars app, reports Comingsoon.net.

As well as immersing fans in the app, four custom Google Cardboard headsets featuring Star Wars imagery will be exclusively available in Verizon stores from 2nd December.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens in cinemas on 17th December in the UK, while American fans will have to wait a day longer till 18th December 2015. Directed by J.J.Abrams the film is set 30 years after the events of Return of the Jedi, and features a return by some of the cast from the original films as well as a new crop of heroes and villans.
