ROBLOX has launched on Oculus Rift, brining virtual reality (VR) gameplay to the cross-platform videogame. The user-generated content platform allows members to create adventures and play videogames, and currently stands as the largest social VR experience in the world with over 20 million monthly visitors.

ROBLOX is a user-generated online gaming platform, with over 15 million videogames and experiences created by users. Powered by a growing community of over 300,000 creators, the “publish once, play anywhere” ethos allows VR players on ROBLOX to engage with millions of gamers. With VR, ROBLOX is giving users a new avenue to experience user-generated content.

ROBLOX is now the largest social VR platform in the world in terms of user count, hours of engagement, simultaneous players and volume of content,” said David Baszucki, CEO of ROBLOX. “Together with our creators, we are providing the most immersive social experiences in the history of user-generated gaming. With VR, we are changing gaming and entertainment as a whole by bringing imagination to life.”

ROBLOX has enhanced the platform with new character and camera controls for VR, improving comfort for all users, including the option to play in first- or third-person and reduced accelerations with respect to jump speeds and falling. These developments give user the ability to step back from their avatar, adding a level of separation for sensitive users.

For the creator community, ROBLOX has expanded its monetisation model to allow developers to earn revenue on Oculus Rift. In order to use ROBLOX on the consumer edition of the Oculus Rift users must enable sideloading of applications via Oculus Home. VRFocus has been hands-on with the VR edition of ROBLOX and will bring you further coverage soon.
