The popularity of the Virtual Reality Los Angeles (VRLA) Expo continues to grow along with the technology it’s championing. Announced in March, this years summer expo will now be held over two days, and also be moved to West Hall B of the LA Convention Center, the very same building in which E3 2016 was held. Today the VRLA has announced that musician, comedian, and immersive media proponent Reggie Watts will be keynote speaker on the Saturday.
Best known for starring in the IFC series Comedy Bang! Bang!, films like Pitch Perfect 2 and Creative Control, and leading the house band for The Late Late Show with James Corden, Watts has also performed in VR holding a live-stream event in May 2016 through AltspaceVR’s platform.
As well as the event featuring demos from companies like HTC, GoPro, Google, Dolby, Deluxe, Envelop VR, MSI, Technicolor, Boost VC, OTOY, and Nokia, there’ll also be a VR rave presented by the Official Audio Partner of VRLA Summer Expo, Skullcandy. Visitors will be able to experience DJs mixing live music inside VR thanks to a collaboration with The Wave, Phasespace, SubPac, 3D Live, and WeLens.
“Our goal is to continue promoting the widespread adoption of VR by giving futurists a place to congregate and discover where new technology, game-making, filmmaking, art, and storytelling intersect,” said Cosmo Scharf, Co-Founder of VRLA. “We’re thrilled to have such an amazing lineup of exhibitors, panelists, and speakers!”
The VRLA began as a meetup group in 2014, growing from 100 attendees to a two-day expo in a couple of years attracting 6,000 odd fans.
“It’s amazing that VRLA has built such a vibrant community in such a short time. Their explosive growth shows how quickly immersive technology has become a part of people’s’ lives.” said Friday’s keynote speaker Roy Taylor, SVP Partnerships, Radeon Technologies Group. “Radeon Technologies Group is thrilled to be a cornerstone of this community.”
