It’s been a good day for virtual reality (VR) fans with big news coming from each of the three conferences held today by Microsoft, Ubisoft and Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE). The latter’s press event has just finished with a big portion dedicated to the PlayStation VR. Announced were new exclusive titles for the head-mounted display, and an official launched date of 13th October 2016, but only for the US. Giving the keynote address was Shawn Layden Chairman of SIE Worldwide Studio, mentioning how many titles were heading to the device by the end of the year.

Layden revealed that between the PlayStation VR launch and 31st December 2016 over 50 videogames would be available for owners to experience. This echo’s comments made by CEO, Andrew House, back in March, at the Game Developers Conference (GDC) 2016, in which he also stated that 50 titles would be available this year.

SIE has shown a strong line-up of unannounced titles today with exclusives coming in the form of Final Fantasy XV: VR Experience, Batman Arkham VR, Resident Evil 7, and Farpoint. A new trailer was also shown for Star Wars: Battlefront VR. Out of the line-up revealed only one was given a concrete release date. Resident Evil 7 which will be available for both the HMD and PlayStation 4, is due to land on 27th, January 2017.

Pre-orders for the PlayStation VR launched at GDC 2016 for $399 USD/£349 GBP with retailers like Amazon and GAME selling out quickly of their allocated stock. SIE recently released phase 2, attributing more stock to online sites for their pre-orders. And depending on the country SIE also launched bundles including the PlayStation Camera and PlayStation Move controllers. For example GAME has an offer for the HMD and camera for £389.98, although this can’t currently be purchased.
