This weekend will see Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) host its second ever fan expo in the PlayStation Experience. The event is moving from last year’s location in Las Vegas, Nevada over to San Francisco, California, from 5th – 6th December 2015 and will offer plenty of hands-on time with the latest titles as well as new announcements and more from a keynote press conference. PlayStation VR, the company’s virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD) for PlayStation 4, will also play a role at the event. As with last year, the kit will be getting a dedicated panel.

The session, titled ‘PlayStation VR and The Future of Play’, was revealed over on the PlayStation Blog and will be hosted at 14:00 PST on 5th December on the third floor of the Moscone West Hall in which the event is set. Those keeping a schedule, that’s just a few hours after the keynote speech – kicking off at 10:00 – ends. The panel will feature David Ranyard of SCE London, the developer behind some of the most popular PlayStation VR tech demos such as The Deep and London Heist. He’ll be joined by Media Molecule’s Anton Mikhailov, who worked on PlayStation VR itself before joining the team behind Dreams. SCE is also teasing special guests to appear at the event.

The panel will be hosted by the PlayStation Blog’s Sid Shuman, who noted in the post’s comment section: “My goal here is to spell out what makes a good VR experience, with the help of some top developers. VR is a super nascent technology and I’m hoping we can touch on how it’s going to grow and advance over time as developers learn new tricks.” As for the special guests, these could well be developers working on projects that are announced during Saturday’s keynote speech, though we’ll have to wait and see on that one.

As for PlayStation VR itself, the kit is due to launch in the first half of 2016, though a specific launch date and price are yet to be confirmed. For the latest on PlayStation VR and any other HMDs, keep reading VRFocus.
