A pioneer in the virtual reality (VR) videogame scene since the launch of AaaaaAAaaaAAAaaAAAAaCULUS!!! back in 2013, an update for the hugely popular AaaaaAAaaaAAAaaAAAAaAAAAA!!! for the Awesome that added support for the Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD), Owlchemy Labs have upped their game in recent months. It seems this was no accident, as the studio has stated to VRFocus that they are now ‘all in’ on VR.

Speaking with Alex Schwartz, Co-Found and CEO at Owlchemy Labs, at a recent event, VRFocus got to learn about the process the studio has been through in determining future products and where it lies in relation to VR. It appears that ties have been formed, and Owlchemy Labs is set on pushing into VR in a big way.

“So we’ve been around as a company making games for Steam and PC, and also mobile, for the past 5 years, and very recently we decided to go all in on VR,” stated Schwartz. “We launched AaaaaAAaaaAAAaaAAAAaCULUS!!! on Steam [which] was one of the first games on Steam that had VR support, and that kind of got us into fray with VR.”

Owlchemy Labs revealed it’s first videogame title built from-the-ground-up for VR at the Game Developers Conference (GDC), San Francisco, earlier this year. Job Simulator was warmly received on HTC Vive and has since been confirmed for Oculus Rift also.

“At GDC – at the announce of the Vive – with HTC and Valve we showed Job Simulator, our new IP. We launched our ‘kitchen’ demo at GDC and everybody’s been kind of going crazy over it,” states Schwartz.

VRFocus has been hands-on with Job Simulator on numerous occasions and will bring you further impressions and the full interview with Schwartz in the very near future.
