Oculus SDK 1.3 Now Available

In the run up to the launch of the Oculus Rift virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD) creator Oculus VR confirmed that the latest version of its software development kit (SDK), v1.3, would be arriving on release day. With the very first Oculus Rift units now arriving, the company has indeed made good on that promise; SDK 1.3 is now available to download for free and brings with it a host of new features for VR developers to take advantage of.

As already reported, SDK 1.3 delivers Asynchronous Timewarp, helping developers to create smoother VR experiences. It was also known that the update would bring native support for Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 4, but it’s doing the same for the Unity Engine too. There’s also, obviously, support for the consumer version of the Oculus Rift itself, with many developers having worked with the second development kit (DK2) up until this point.

Expect plenty more SDK updates in the coming months as Oculus VR continues to refine the developer experience and make breakthroughs in delivering perfect immersion for VR. Check back with VRFocus for the latest on the Oculus Rift.
