Last year Oculus VR announced that its long-awaited virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD), the Oculus Rift, would be launching in the first quarter of 2016. Since that time VR fans have patiently waited for more details about the device, some of which were revealed at E3 in June. Perhaps the most eagerly anticipated news is a specific date inside of that broad 3-month window. Today, Oculus VR has finally confirmed the exact month the Oculus Rift will release in, letting fans know when they will be able to get their hands on the first edition of the device.

The device will be launching in March 2016. The company confirmed with the expected shipping date for the newly launched pre-orders for the kit. As expected, this date puts the kit’s launch just in front of the promised April launch of Valve and HTC’s Vive HMD. It’s also likely a ways in front of PlayStation VR, Sony Computer Entertainment’s (SCE’s) HMD for PlayStation 4 that it says will be launching in the first half of this year.

This is not the only release date that Oculus VR fans are waiting on either; the company’s much touted input solution, Oculus Touch, will be launching in the second half of this year too.

There’s still a lot that fans have to learn about the consumer version of the Oculus Rift, much of which will hopefully be revealed in the remainder of Oculus Connect 2. VRFocus is at the event to deliver all of the latest updates on each and every development.
