Northway Games Talks Making Fantastic Contraption with Unity in New Video

There are few better examples of what’s possible with SteamVR and its user tracking features than Fantastic Contraption from Northway Games. This browser-based title has transformed into a full 3D experience for the HTC Vive virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD) using Room Scale user tracking and the position-tracked SteamVR controllers. Now the developer has provided a fresh look at the title with the help of the Unity Technologies, the company behind the Unity Engine that’s being used to create Fantastic Contraption.

Northwest Games’ ‘madewith.unity.com’ piece can be seen below. It features the developers talking about their travelling work ethic, which has seen them create titles in a range of countries. In terms of Fantastic Contraption itself, the title can be seen being played using the HTC Vive and its controllers, which the team notes form a pivitol part of the overall VR experience. Interestingly, some of the footage is even mirrored over the top of the team as they play, showing how SteamVR bringing the body into the VR experience like never before.

It’s not yet clear when Fantastic Contraption will arrive, nor if it might also come to the Oculus Rift with support for the Oculus Touch controllers or PlayStation VR with PlayStation Move integration. VRFocus will continue to follow the title closely, reporting back with the latest updates on its progress.
