When it comes to videogames certain new technologies gravitate towards you wanting certain experiences. For example when the Nintendo Wii came out everyone was debating the possibility of a ‘proper’ lightsaber experience. In much the same way when the Kinect came out one of the most highly marketed stand out experiences was Fable: The Journey in which you would cast spells with your hands. It made sense. If the Wii promoted swords, had tracking promoted attacks via your hands. This has since been followed up with in virtual reality (VR) by the likes of CCP Games and their test experience with the ability to throw fire and lightning.

Things haven’t stopped there however and for those wanting an expanded taste of life as a VR wizard then there is an experience in Oculus VR Share you may want to try out, Created by StormBringer Studios as part of last year’s Leap Motion 3D Jam, Warlock VR takes you inside the long hallway of a building in the wizarding world where you can use the combination of Leap Motion tracking, an Oculus Rift DK1 or DK2 head mounted display (HMD) and a pre-0.6 version of the SDK. Where as CCP’s tst app allowed only the use of two spells warlock VR expands the experience with an array of spells and physics objects on which to use them. Ranging from basic firebolts to black holes and meteor like strikes feel free to use your powers creatively… or alternatively blast the heck out of everything barrel-related in sight.

You can see a trailer for the game below and more information about requirements, beyond the need for a Leap Motion of course, can be found on the Oculus VR Share page.

VRFocus will be back next week to spotlight another New To VR experience.
