Samsung has kept up its momentum from last year’s Sundance Festival with not only news of titles, but announcements of expansion within virtual reality (VR) production. The electronic company behind the mobile-based VR head-mounted display (HMD), Samsung Gear VR, has announced at the festival that it will be opening a new VR production studio in New York.

The new studio, which will be located in existing offices, will expand the company’s potential in creating immersive experiences for their HMD beyond what they have already produced. The existing offices are currently used by Samsung’s marketing team, which could be a strategic plan to make sure new VR content is optimally promoted.

Similar news was heard at the 2015 Sundance Festival where Oculus VR announced the development of its VR studio, Oculus Story Studio. The first immersive VR short film to be produced was the experimental LOST, which will be followed up by Oculus’ second story still in development, Henry.

Samsung has been featuring at this year’s Sundance Film Festival with announcements of new VR films and series for its HMD, including Skybounds GONE, and Clever Foxs COYOTE, both classed as thriller in genre.
