At Oculus’ mobile virtual reality (VR) jam back in 2015 a large number of developers created new videogames and other experiences for the Samsung Gear VR head-mounted display (HMD). One of them was Skydome Studios with music-based experience Audio Arena, which subsequently launched on the mobile HMD in November. The title then arrived on Oculus Home and now Steam for both HTC Vive and Oculus Rift.

A single-player videogame in which the enemies are spawned by music, Audio Arena entails dodging enemies and using a variety of weapons to take them down to make it to the end of the given music track, over the course of 20 levels. Powerups are placed in the arena to kill your foes. Picking them up on the beat of the music increases your sync bonus for higher scores. There’s an online Steam leaderboard if your scores are good enough.

There’s a couple of control options that Audio Arena supports. There’s the standard gaze controls which the Gear VR had, where players use head tracking to move the cursor around the arena. Or for HTC Vive owners there’s motion controls if using your head doesn’t feel as intuitive.

Currently Skydome Studios has a special limited time offer available until 1st, August 2016. There’s a 20 percent discount on offer dropping the price from £4.99 GBP down to £3.99.

VRFocus will continue its coverage of Audio Arena, reporting back with any further updates.
