There was a grand show of virtual reality (VR) during CCP Games’ EVE Fanfest 2016, with both EVE: Valkyrie and Project Arena making real impressions on fest-goers, and now it has come about that the Lead Developer for EVE: Valkyrie is jumping from strength to strength by transferring from the UK to the Atlanta team to work on more VR projects.

The news came yesterday when Sigurdur ‘Siggi’ Gunnarsson took to Twitter to announce his swift move, saying: “Time for an announcement. In two weeks I will be leaving the UK to join the VR team in CCP Atlanta to work on some cutting-edge VR stuff.”

He then carried on in another tweet explaining how he had enjoyed his time developing the main VR title for CCP Games, but anticipates a great future across the pond: “The last three years in the UK have been great and it was a hard decision to leave EVE: Valkyrie, but I look forward to new challenges ahead”.

When VRFocus asked Siggi what projects he would be working on, nothing could be officially disclosed, just that there would be some new VR titles to come. The Atlanta team at CCP Games is known for its progressive nature when it comes to VR, as during the previous year of the EVE Fanfest there were two VR titles that were tried out, then bringing Project Arena to this year’s event to show off the developed product.

Siggi then made a nod towards the unrest that had occured in the UK that day regarding Brexit, where the UK had effectively voted to leave the European Union, saying: “I realize this is an odd day to announce my departure from the UK :)”.

Lead Dev on EVE: Valkyrie Crosses Over to CCP Team Working on Project Arena

Judging by the caliber of EVE: Valkyrie and Siggi’s move over to CCP Atlanta, it would be wise to assume that CCP Games is putting some real muscle behind creating bigger VR titles in the months and even years to come.
