Later on today Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) will host is first ever Paris Games Week (PGW) press conference, revealing new PlayStation titles and providing updates on others. It’s not clear just how big of a role the company’s upcoming virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD), PlayStation VR, will play at the show. While the wait for official news continues, a new pre-order listing for the device from an Italian retailer posted this week is fuelling speculation about a possible price point and more.

As uncovered by The Games Cabin, online retailer Multiplayer has listed the HMD with a €499.90 EUR price tag. Take this listing with a pinch of salt, however, as there’s absolutely no way to verify the information that’s been provided and the placeholder art that’s used is clearly just a mock up. The box on display uses images of the original PlayStation VR prototype, back from when it was first codenamed Project Morpheus. That said, the site also has a price guarantee, promising to match lower listings from the competition.

All but confirming the placeholder nature of this information is the release date for the kit, which is set at 31st December 2016. PlayStation VR is known to be launching in the first half of 2016 for starters, so this estimate is more than a little off the charts. Still, posting the listing up online such a short time ahead of the PGW conference could be hinting at more official information to arrive later on today. At the very least VR fans should see some news experiences for the device make their debut.

Following PGW, SCE has one more major event for the year in its PlayStation Experience fan expo in early December. If PlayStation VR information isn’t shared later today, then, that could be the venue for it.

VRFocus will continue to follow PlayStation VR closely, reporting back with the latest updates on its progress.
