HTC Reveals New Content Platform Called Viveport

VRLA has kicked off this week, and today HTC have announced a new platform where VR content and experiences will all be gathered, called Viveport.

Viveport has come after the increased popularity, growth and success of VR videogames, which Steam, the online storefront that comes from Valve, partner with HTC for the Vive, has very much encouraged. The platform features immersive experiences across additional categories and also updates Vive Home. This is essentially a hub for both creators and customers to discover, create, connect, watch, and shop.

The categories for VR experiences include: education, design, art, social, video, music, sports, health, fashion, travel, news, shipping, creativity tools, and more – if you can imagine any with that incredibly extensive list.

“Our mission is to unleash human imagination from the limitations of reality, and Viveport will be an important cornerstone in democratizing access to the world’s most diverse selection of immersive experiences,” said Cher Wang, CEO of HTC.

“We believe equal access to virtual reality experiences will make the world a better place; enhancing our daily lives and the way we connect with everything. An important goal for the Viveport team is to enable developers to reach a global audience and grow their business,” said Rikard Steiber, Senior Vice President of Viveport.

It is reportedly built to be responsive to content creators and developers, and what this means in that it enables them to create things with a long-term outlook and get money from it. There will be a pay-to-download feature, in-app purchases, subscriptions, and more revenue generating things. Viveport will also support content creation, distribution, and customer engagement.

Viveport will be available during Fall 2016, and there will be a developer beta to launch soon. Content creators and developers are invited to join the Viveport community and register online.
