In December VRFocus reported on Czech Republic-based indie developer Dreadlocks announcing a brand new first-person horror adventure title built primarily for virtual reality (VR) called Ghost Theory. The studio also said it would be launching a Kickstarter crowd-funding campaign, and that campaign has now gone live today.

In Ghost Theory, players are put in the role of a gifted paranormal investigator able to catch glimpses of ghosts. Using stealth and your wits to survive, along with all the tools modern science can provide, you will learn and explore real-life haunted locations to cleanse them of their evil presence, whilst collecting data and evidence to solve the eternal mystery of the afterlife.

Dreadlocks is taking a different slant on the survival horror genre, players won’t running around shooting zombies or psychopaths on a linear course. Each haunted location will be open-ended allowing you to explore and discover the backstory behind it. But as you do so you’ll disturb and anger the spirits that reside there, meaning they’ll begin to stalk and harass you, becoming increasingly aggressive as you near your goal.

The videogame will support Windows and Mac, with VR support for the Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD). The campaign is looking to raise £100,000 GBP within the next month and backing tiers being at £1 GBP, although to secure a digital copy of Ghost Theory the reward tier begins at £14 GBP.

VRFocus will continue to follow the progress of Dreadlocks’ Ghost Theory Kickstarter, reporting back with any further updates.
