We’re only halfway through 2016 and its already been a big year for virtual reality (VR). There’s been hardware launches, tons of software made available or in development and there’s plenty more to come. While a good portion has been centred on the western markets, Chinese companies are investing heavily, at home and abroad and the company looks set to become one of the biggest users of VR. Looking to take advantage of this Deepoon which has announced its begun shipping it Deepoon M2 VR headset.
An all-in-one VR head-mounted display (HMD), the Deepoon M2 is a completely standalone device with no smartphone or external computer needed. Inside the HMD is a Samsung Exynos 7420 powered by ARM Octa-core’s CPU and Mali-T760MP8 GPU. That’s the same chipset as the Samsung Galaxy S6, and it also features a Samsung 2560 x1440 OLED display.
Deepoon worked closely with ARM to help optimize the Mali GPU and integrate some key algorithms such as asynchronous time warp (ATW), controlling latency to within 19ms. Due to the companies working together, Deepoon claim it’s become the first Chinese VR maker develop a solution for mobile processor VR specific optimizations, including front buffering, context priority, and multi-view. This should ensure top GPU performance for VR games whilst demanding minimal power consumption.
And to support the headset Deepoon has its VR content platform, 3D BoBo. THis currently has over 150 titles to download and 10,000+ hours of immersive video content.
Pre-orders began in earlier this year in April in which Deepoon received over 20,000 orders for the M2. The company hasn’t announced if it’ll be expand outside of its hoe market, but if it does VRFocus will bring you the latest details.
