This month will see the release of Samsung’s consumer version of its virtual reality (VR) mobile head-mounted display (HMD) Gear VR. In preparation for the launch US retail giant Best Buy has now opened pre-orders on its website for the headset. The retailer was hosting a big discount sale for the previous Innovator Edition development kit at $99.99 USD which is the same price Oculus VR announced the consumer version would be priced at during its Oculus Connect 2 event in September.

Alongside Best Buy opening up pre-orders for the Gear VR HMD the site also reveals a very new bit of previously unknown information, the headsets release date. Listed on the site is Friday 20th November. Samsung had said the HMD would be released before Black Friday in the US which is the 27th November, but no exact release date has been given until now.

The new Samsung Gear VR is compatible with all of the smartphone manufacturers top of the line devices including Galaxy Note5, Galaxy S6 edge+, Galaxy S6 edge, and Galaxy S6. The new headset is lighter and features a redesigned touchpad, but not a lot else has changed from the previous Innovators Edition.

VRFocus will continue to bring you all the latest news from Samsung on the Gear VR mobile HMD as more announcements are made.
